Welcome and thanks for checking out our website!
We have created this site to inform the world of our efforts and create a bridge
of communication to gain assistance in getting our agenda out. This
year 4 of us here at Ramstein have decided to get together and compete in
the Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run 2012 on May 5th – AKA “The Strongest
Race Of All Time.” This event takes place at the world famous Nurburgring and the race consists of a 20 Kilometer run with extreme obstacles to conquer almost every Kilometer
on the way.
Not content to just compete in the run, we decided to use this event to draw
attention to a well deserving organization that supports our military
members. Therefore we have chosen to champion Fisher House Landstuhl! Our goal is to raise as much money as we can to donate to this important cause.
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes,” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Now the Landstuhl Fisher House’s specific mission is as follows.
Mission: The two Landstuhl Fisher Houses provide a “home away from home” for families and patients receiving medical care at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. Families served are from the US European Command, US Central Command, US Special Operations Command, US Africa Command and the 72 Embassies in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. As of today, we are proud to have supported over 10,000 families of which more than 2,500 have come from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF-Afghanistan) or Operation New Dawn (formerly OIF). We are also proud to say we have assisted 27 coalition countries in their families’ time of need. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!
As you can tell the location of this Fisher House puts them on the front line of having to assist families when our wounded servicemen are just arriving from down range. So with that, this is where you. The individual come into play. We need your help to make this a success! We ask that you, please make a donation to the Landstuhl Fisher House. On the top of this page simply click the link that says “Donation Link” and there you will see a paypal donation button. Any amount that you can donate would be greatly appreciated by not only us, but the Landstuhl Fisher House and the families they will be able to help with your charity.
To help ensure you feel like a part of this event we have included a list of the team members with a short bio, a blog to document our training progress, thoughts about the event since this kind of run is a first for all 4 of us, and most of all we promise to document the whole event to the best of our capability. We already have a few friends and family who have volunteered to come out to take pictures and video of us competing. One of our runners also plans on wearing a GoPro video camera to make sure you can all feel like a part of the race.
As soon as the run is complete, we will compile our photos and videos to share with all of you as well as provide video and photos of us presenting our total amount raised to the Landstuhl Fisher House in person.
We thank you for your time and hopefully a donation as well.
